In 1613 Englishman John Saris visited William Adams in Japan. Adams introduced Saris to Shogun Tokugawa Hidetada who presented him with two suits of armour in the Domaru style of the 15th Century for King James I, which can be seen today on display at the Tower of London. The photo here is of a genuine 15th Century suit of armour in the same Domaru style on display at the National Museum, Tokyo.

In 1588 Emperor Jurakudai Goyozei visited Jurakudai, the residence of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and a waka poetry party was held. This scroll contains the waka written by Karasumaru Mitsuhiro at that party.
